the backyard report

Mostly because it makes me happy to note it:

Many many scores of crocuses, including colors I haven't before seen
One fat bumblebee making turgid, drunken love to the crocuses
Dozens of vibrant purple jumbo crocuses
Several shades of lovely dwarf irises
Daffodils just opening
Squill popping up
Tulips plants, many with tinges or bold stripes of burgundy - to open this week?
Hyacinths emerging
Strawberry and raspberry plants leafing out

Robins, cardinals, jays, crows, grackles, mourning doves, sparrows, pigeons...and a hawk who eats the pigeons (I've seen it twice this winter on nearby garages!)

Many lettuces, mustard greens, spinach, bok choi, snap and snow peas, and fava beans planted, along with "green mulch" of clover

Cold frame, um, not done, but still making progress! and it will allow us to plant tomatoes early and with impunity to late frosts. :)

And inside, seed trays of leeks, kohlrabi, and broccoli doing nicely for April planting, and many tomatoes started for later...

Woo hoo! Wow, we're missing more than I thought with the spring blooms.
That's great news about the early plantings - looking forward to seeing the baby veggies next month!

So what's going on where you are? We're missing your reports...

Gaah! I know; i've been torn between posting easy, daily updates and keeping things chronological with pictures (which takes more time).
More coming soon - I promise.

Also: video chat this morning?

Congrats on all the new life in your yard!

(honesty impels me to admit that, as a bee-phobe, I could've stood to wait a few more weeks before the giant furry buzzes started up. But the rest of it is awesome. Really.)

I loved reading your posts about this last year. I love it even more when I get to see it happening and have a hand in it. Yay growing!
