Woot, I am chair-dancing! My revision of Fire and Ice, she is finish! Almost a year after the first take, but I was kind of busy this year. :P

I've never before enjoyed rewriting - when I did it to get a story published at 20, I said that it was like cutting off my baby's arms and sewing them on backwards (not that I would have known). But this! This was fun. I shaved that puppy down from 129 pages to 99 (should be under two hours), tossed out two songs, and now have something that feels manageable instead of lumbering.

And now I must read everything the internet thinks about what I can do to get it produced. Unless you happen to know a theatrical company looking to do a cutting-edge apocalyptic musical with eight principles and six in the ensemble?

I have seen many of the shows produced by Shadowbox Live here in Columbus over the years and I think that they just might be interested in something like "Fire and Ice". Their "bread and butter" are comedy/rock & roll shows that are kind of like Saturday Night Live, but with a theatrically produced cover song by their in-house band fronted by one or more members of the main cast in between each sketch.

However, they also do nights of one-acts, original musicals (including two about a burlesque troop and one about Woodstock), as well as everything from "Rocky Horror" to "Rent" to "Jesus Christ Superstar". Last I heard, they were the largest resident theater company in the U.S., with a troupe of 60 performers doing one to three performances per day at least 5 days of every week. Top ticket price: $30!

From their web site (http://www.shadowboxlive.org):

"Shadowbox Live is a non-profit 501C3 performance troupe that self-produces a wide range of shows, as well as runs the company on a day-to-day basis. The top managers of the company make up the Board of Trustees and operate as the primary creators, producers, and performers for the shows.

For over 20 years this creative force has produced world-class productions, including original rock operas, traditional musicals, fine art exhibits, contemporary dance, and video / television. An ensemble company of dedicated performers, Shadowbox Live is a healthy, vibrant, self-sustaining arts organization."

Executive Producer & CEO, Stev Guyer (sguyer@shadowboxlive.org) -- yes, he really spells it "Stev" without the usual ending "e".

Thanks! In fact, they sound like they might be able to take on "Never After," too. I wonder if it's poor form to query a theater about two scripts at once...

...And now you DO? Hmmm. I need to pay more attention to my niece.

In other, less snarky, news, you might contact Ryan Johnson, cause his wife is involved in all kinds of local theater thingies, including some pretty avant-garde schtuffs and plenty of musical schtuffs.

Ooor, I might contact Ryan Johnson to hassle him about getting on those polygamy laws, so you can marry him too as you properly ought to. (Oh wait, this was supposed to be the less-snarky bit?)

Either way, what's his contact infoz?
